If you are not a current FSW member and try to register for the competition, registration will be gray and not allow you to proceed.Click here to go to the membership page before filling out the applicaiton.

  • Deadline to apply and submit a recording is Nov. 16, 2009 (no expections!)
  • Application and recording will be submitted online. Recording can be uploaded only after the application fee has been paid.

  • After submitting your registration form, you will receive an email with a link to upload your file.

  • Upload only one file. If you need help combining files, see free program Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

  • Name your file with 8 letters: first two letters of your first name, first two letters of your middle name, and the first four letters of your last name. Missing letters should use an "x). Example: Sam Earl Sun would be saeasunx.mp3.

  • Make sure that the recording  demonstrates the highest  possible audio quality so that your performance can be evaluated successfully.

  • Do not edit within a selection or electronically alter the recording.

  • Results will be available online at the FSW website on or before January 15, 2010.

  • Never upload a video recording.

  • Accompanists are the responsibility of the finalists for the Young Artist  Competition.

  • Flutists may enter more than one competition but can only be selected to perform in one event at the flute fair.

  • A preliminary or final round performance in excess of the maximum performance time allotted will disqualify the applicant.

  • The decision of the judges is final.

  •  The Young Artist Competition has no residency restrictions.

 

The Young Artist Competition

The Young Artist Competition is for outstanding flutists, under the age of 30 (as of February 1, 2010), who have completed an undergraduate degree at a college, university, or conservatory.  Finalists for the Young Artist Competition will be selected, on the basis of their recorded audition, to compete on Saturday at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair.  Cash prizes ($1,000, $750 & $500) will be awarded. Previous first prize winners are not eligible to participate.

Requirements:  

1.  A recording containing the following selections in this order:

a)  Bach's Sonata in C Major (BWV 1033) Andante-Presto and Allegro (no repeats)

b)  Repertoire of the applicant's choice, not to exceed 10 minutes. All works for flute and keyboard must be recorded using both instruments.

2. Final found repertoire should cover at least two periods of music and begin with the required Bach selections from the preliminary round.  The final repertoire list cannot be changed. Total maximum time is 20 (twenty) minutes including the required selection and time between movements, etc.

3. Aplication fee is $30.
