2010 Student Honors Competition

If you are not a current FSW member and try to register for the competition, registration will be gray and not allow you to proceed.Click here to go to the membership page before filling out the applicaiton.

  • Deadline to apply and submit a recording is Nov. 16, 2009 (no expections!)
  • Application and recording will be submitted online and can be uploaded only after the application fee has been paid. 

  • Recording should be a .mp3 file. Only one file should be uploaded. If you need to combine your file you could use "Audicity". It is a free online program.

  • After submitting your registration form, you will receive an email with a link to upload your file.

  • Your file should be named in the following manner: use first two letters of your first name, first two letters of your middle name and first four letters of your last name. Use "x" for any missing leters.  Example: Jane Sally Sun would be jasasunx.mp3. 

  • Make sure that the recording demonstrates the highest possible audio quality so that your performance can be evaluated successfully.

  • Do not edit within a selection or electronically alter the recording.

  • Results will be available online at the FSW website on or before January 15, 2010.

  • Never upload a video recording. The Honors Competition winners may perform in any fiar event since there is no final round held during the 2010 flute fair. Awards will be presented at the flute fair.

  • The decision of the judges is final.

  • The Student Honors Competition is limited to performers who live or attend school in the Mid-Atlantic States (Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, West Virginia, Washington, DC, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania). 

Student Honors Competition

This competition is for outstanding flutists in grade 12 and under. Winners will be selected on the basis of their recording from each division (Senior High School division: grade 10-12, Junior High Division: grade 7-9 and Elementary Division: grade 6 and under). Cash and other awards will be presented to the winners at the flute fair. Previous first prize winners are not eligible to participate in the same division. The decision of the judges is final. All music for flute and keyboard must be accompanied. See residency requirement listed above.

Requirements:

1. A recording containing:

(Senior Division): E. Kronke’s Caprice Espagnol, Op. 113, from Romantic Music, vol.1, Cavally, ed., Southern Music,

(Junior Division) Gliere’s Melody, Op.35, No. 1, Little Piper or

(Elementary Division) Gordon Jacob's Cradle Song from  Flute Solos Vol. 2, Trevor Wye, ed., Chester Music

3. Aapplication fee is $15.
