Lecture Recital: Innovative Works from International Composers for Flute and Harp
with Beau Soir Ensemble  (Room 5)

Because of the limited number of compositions and transcriptions written for flute and harp, there tends to be an over-programming of standard favorites. Over the past several decades exciting new music has been written for these instruments from composers around the world. We’ve discovered some delightful pieces by composers from Canada, Argentina, and New Zealand that deserve to be heard by a wider audience. Each piece pushes the technical and musical limits of both the flute and harp, making them challenging to prepare and equally satisfying to hear.

Balance, Breathing and Your Arms: An Introduction to Body Mapping   (Room 5)

with Dr. Michelle Kunz

The body map is one's self-representation in one's own brain. If the body map is accurate, movement is effective. If not, movement is inefficient and possibly injury-producing. Body Mapping is the conscious correcting and refining of one's body map to produce efficient, coordinated, effective movement. This introduction is designed to help each participant better understand balance and breathing, and how they affect the arms while playing. Bring your flutes and your curiosity!

Join world-renowned composers William Averitt, Eric Ewazen, and Andrew Simpson for this moderated forum in which these questions, plus many more, will be answered. Audience questions are welcome and encouraged.
