Honors Competition

The Honors Competitions is for outstanding flutists in grade 12 and under, who attend school or are homeschooled in a Mid-Atlantic state as defined above. Three finalists will be selected on the basis of their recording from each division: Senior (grade 10-12), Junior (grade 7-9) and Elementary (grade 6 or younger). Cash and other prizes will be awarded. Previous first prize winners are not eligible to participate in the same division. The decision of the judges is final. All works for flute and keyboard must be recorded using both instruments.

 

Requirements*

  1. Online application and fee, $20
  2. Submit an audio recording containing the following selection based on the division the applicant is entering:

Elementary Division - Ricky Lombardo, Mountain Song, Lombardo Solo Spotlight (collection) (LMP)

Junior Division - Jules Mouquet, I. Pan et les Bergers, La Flute de Pan

Senior Division - - Franz Schubert, Theme, Variations III and VII, Introduction and Variations on a Theme, Trockne Blemen, Op. 160

     3. Final round music selection for each division:

Elementary Division - Ricky Lombardo , Mountain Song, Lombardo Solo Spotlight (collection) (LMP)

Junior Division - Ervin Monroe, A Night Soliloquy (Little Piper)

Senior Division - - Ingolf Dahl, Theme, Variation I, Variation VII,  Variations on a Swedish Folktune (Theodore Presser Company)
