Statement Regarding COVID Protocols at the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention
After much consideration and discussion, the Board of Directors of The Flute Society of Washington, Inc. has agreed upon the following with regard to the upcoming Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention, to be held February 19-20, 2022.
The goal remains to hold the convention as an in-person event, to be held at the Washington Hilton Dulles in Herndon VA, with the following protocols in place. All persons, of any age, attending, performing, or representing an exhibitor at the convention must present proof of full vaccination against COVID-19, or a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of the start of the convention. Masks will be required to be worn at all times, with the exception of solo or chamber performers or presenters during their performance. Flute choirs participating in the flute choir showcase will be required to wear masks while performing. Participants in the Festival Flute Choir, High School Flute Choir, and Junior Flute Choir will also be asked to wear masks while rehearsing and performing.
We feel that adherence to these measures will provide the highest degree of safety for all attendees, while allowing us to present the wonderful programming we’ve all come to expect at MAFC. We will be monitoring CDC guidance for additional developments and will update in-person safety protocols as needed.
In the event that we feel it is not possible to hold a safe in-person event, the convention will be moved to a virtual platform. It is hoped that this decision can be made by the beginning of December at the latest, if need be.
Questions or comments can be sent to the Convention Director.
