Collegiate Soloist Competition

The Collegiate Soloist Competition is for outstanding flutists ages 27 and younger (as of February 1, 2025), who are enrolled as an undergraduate at a college, university, or conservatory located in a Mid-Atlantic state or have their residence of record in a Mid-Atlantic state as defined in the 2025 General Competition Information, Rules and Regulations.  Three finalists will be selected for the final round held at the annual Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention.  Cash prizes of $300, $200 & $100 may be awarded. Applicants must be a student member of the FSW. All works for flute and keyboard must be recorded using both instruments. Previous first prizewinners are not eligible to participate. All works for flute and keyboard must be recorded using both instruments.

Requirements*:

  1. Online application and fee, $25
  2. Submit a  preliminary round recording containing the following:
    • Johannes Donjon, No. 1 Élégie and No. 2 Sérénade from 8 Etudes de Salon (any edition)
    • Lowell Liebermann, No. 5 Hongroise and No. 7 Fanfares from Eight Pieces, Op. 59 (Theodore Presser), both movements on C flute
  3. Final round repertoire:
    • J.S. Bach, Bourrée Angloise (with repeats; ornamentation are at the discretion of the performer) from Partita in A minor (any edition)
    • Adolphus Hailstork, Flute Set for Solo Flute, all movements (Theodore Presser)
