Collegiate Soloist Competition
The Collegiate Soloist Competition is for outstanding flutists ages 27 and younger (as of February 1, 2027), who are enrolled as an undergraduate at a college, university, or conservatory located in a Mid-Atlantic state or have their residence of record in a Mid-Atlantic state as defined in the 2027 General Competition Information, Rules and Regulations. Three finalists will be selected for the final round held at the annual Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention. Cash prizes of $300, $200 & $100 may be awarded. Applicants must be a student member of the FSW. All works for flute and keyboard must be recorded using both instruments. Previous first prizewinners are not eligible to participate. Requirements*:
- Online application and fee, $25
- Submit a preliminary round recording containing the following:
- Telemann (1681-1767), any Fantasia (complete) from 12 Fantasias for Flute without Bass, TWV 40:2-13 (any edition)
- Jacques Castérède (1926-2014), Étude XII from Douze Études Pour Flute, Tema con variazioni, molto liberamente, quasi una improvisazione (Leduc)
- Final round repertoire:
- Philip Glass (1937-), Serenade for solo flute (Theodore Presser Company, often listed under Elkan-Vogel)
- Telemann Fantasia from the preliminary round.
