Honors Competition
The Honors Competitions is for outstanding flutists in grade 12 and under, who attend school or are homeschooled in a Mid-Atlantic state as defined in the 2026 General Competition Information, Rules and Regulations. Three finalists will be selected on the basis of their recording from each division: Senior (grades 10-12), Junior (grades 7-9) and Elementary (grades 6 or younger). Cash and other prizes will be awarded. Previous first prize winners are not eligible to participate in the same division. The decision of the judges is final. All works for flute and keyboard must be recorded using both instruments.
Requirements*
- Online application and fee, $20
- Submit an audio recording containing the following selection based on the division the applicant is entering:
- Elementary Division: Cécile Chaminade: March Russe from 24 Classic Solos for Winds (Carl Fischer)
- Junior Division: Valerie Coleman: Legends - I. Lin-Fa & II. Dagda’s Harp (Coleman Page)
- Senior Division: Eugénie Rocherolle: Sonata No. 1 - I. Allegro Moderato (Hal Leonard)
- Final round music selection for each division:
- Elementary Division: Alan Bullard: #20 Dreamy Flute from Fifty for Flute - Book 1 (ABRSM)
- Junior Division: Nicole Chamberlain: Unity (Spotted Rocket)
- Senior Division: Astor Piazzolla: Tango Etude No. 3 (Henry Lemoine)
